Trent Alexander-Arnold is undoubtedly one of the best players in the world.

Alexander-Arnold is a target for Real Madrid for a reason, he's a world-class talent who can do almost anything on the ball.

However, in this day and age, everyone is a critic, and Alexander-Arnold does often have some criticism levelled against him.

Indeed, there's this overriding view in the media that Alexander-Arnold isn't a good defender.

Steve Nicol said that Alexander-Arnold can't defend, while Leroy Rosenior has also been critical of the right-back's defensive ability.

However, speaking to Sky Sports, Jack Grealish has gone out to bat for the full-back.

Jack Grealish defends Trent Alexander-Arnold

Grealish had nothing but good things to say about his England teammate.

Grealish stated that he thinks Alexander-Arnold is an unbelievable player, while he backed his defensive ability.

Grealish says that people will always look for problems no matter how good a player is, claming that Alexander-Arnold is underrated defensively.

"Unbelievable. What a player," Grealish said.

When asked if Alexander-Arnold is underrates defensively, Grealish replied: "Yeah, of course. Nowadays I think everyone just tries to look at something whether you are a defender, attacker, whatever, the things that people say is not their best strength, if that makes sense.

"Obviously, I am not saying it's not. I am saying that's what people try to say, it's like Erling, he's an absolute machine, Erling, and then people say, oh, he needs to sort his touch or whatever when his touch is perfectly fine, do you know what I mean?

"Just people want to like have something to say and I think that's what they do about Trent, but obviously, I play with him for England and he is an unbelievable player."

What Jurgen Klopp said about Alexander-Arnold's defending

This debate about Alexander-Arnold's defending has been far too tedious for far too long.

Indeed, Jurgen Klopp hit the nail on the head a few years ago when he discussed Alexander-Arnold's defending.

Klopp said that anyone who questions Alexander-Arnold's defensive ability doesn't know football.

"I said it already before, but if one of you thinks still that Trent cannot defend then I'm sorry, you have no idea about football," Klopp said.

"Everybody who says that, it's just madness."

As Klopp says, it's madness that these conversations even arise.

Liverpool have conceded just two goals this season and Alexander-Arnold has played in every single league game at right-back.

Liverpool have also won a league title and a Champions League with Alexander-Arnold in their back four, so this idea that he can't defend is simply ridiculous.
