Lucas Bergvall has become a fan favourite at Tottenham Hotspur.

The teenager officially moved to Spurs last summer and has been with the senior team from the first day. Everybody at the club rated him very highly and viewed him as a huge talent.

Bergvall didn’t start too many games in the first half of the season, but he got the nod against Newcastle United and Liverpool recently.

He became the star against the Premier League leaders by scoring the winner in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final.

Bergvall has done enough to stake his claim for a starting spot at Tottenham.

Spurs take on Arsenal in the North London Derby on Wednesday night, and although it is a high-pressure game, we think Bergvall should get the nod.

The youngster has looked incredibly composed on the ball against the big sides. He didn’t look fazed at all against Liverpool and produced a fantastic display.

To add to that, his ability to drive forward with the ball and be a goal threat with his late runs offers something different to Tottenham in the middle of the park.

In his press conference ahead of the derby, a reporter told Ange Postecoglou that he sees similarities between Bergvall and Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham, and asked the Spurs boss about his thoughts on the two players.

Postecoglou replied, as per Football London: “Hard to say. It's always hard comparing players. He does seem to have that unique trait of being able to play those different roles in midfield.

“Usually, midfielders will tend to be one or the other, but he seems to cover the defensive side of the game, have the technical ability to dictate tempos but also have the running capacity to break lines.

“I think he's got goals in him as well. He scored his first one but from what we've seen in training, he's a good finisher. That's the exciting bit. We've got to temper that with the fact that he's 18 and still got a lot to learn, but from my perspective, that's exciting.

“The fact that there's a few players in this team that are multifunctional in that way, it just gives you great scope for what we're trying to create moving forward.”

The small bid Tottenham once tabled to sign Jude Bellingham

Bellingham is now one of the best players in the world.

The Englishman had a phenomenal debut season at Real Madrid, directly contributing to 36 goals in all competitions. That is a stunning return.

The £115 million deal Real Madrid agreed for Bellingham looks to be worth every penny now, but things could’ve been very different had Daniel Levy been more ambitious a few years ago.

The Telegraph revealed in 2020 that a year before Bellingham moved to Borussia Dortmund, Tottenham tabled a £1 million bid for the midfielder.

That, unsurprisingly, was rejected, and Spurs missed out on an incredible player as a result.
