Van Nistelrooy sack latest: Leicester City update

22/04/2025 05:19
Ruud van Nistelrooy is highly unlikely to lead Leicester City in the Championship next season, sources have told Football Insider.
The Foxes’ relegation to the second tier was confirmed on Sunday (20 April) with their 1-0 home loss against champions-elect Liverpool.
Van Nistelrooy, 48, confirmed showdown talks with King Power Stadium chiefs in the aftermath of the defeat.
Sources say the Leicester hierarchy are yet to make a decision on whether the Dutchman will see out the remainder of the 2024-25 campaign.
Van Nistelrooy highly unlikely to keep Leicester job
It is expected the call will be made before the clash against Wolves on Saturday (26 April).
In any case, Van Nistelrooy is almost certain to be relieved of his duties ahead of the 2025-26 campaign following a very disappointing spell in the dugout.

He has won just two of his 20 Premier League games in charge at Leicester, drawing a further two games.
The Dutchman was given the job after an impressive spell in interim charge at Man United, where he won three games and drew one.
Van Nistelrooy’s contract at Leicester runs until June 2027.
Leicester face new points deduction threat
Meanwhile, finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider (11 April) that Leicester have a Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) "problem" this season following their heavy financial losses.
Their losses fell from £90million to £19million in 2023-24, with top-flight clubs permitted to lose £105million over a rolling three-year period.
Borson revealed Leicester's PSR issue will fall into the EFL's hands following their relegation.
