'Very impressive': John Barnes says one Liverpool youngster has blown him away in pre-season

Liverpool beat Real Betis 1-0 on Friday evening as the Reds' first pre-season under Arne Slot kicks up a gear.
Liverpool put in a professional performance against the Spanish outfit, keeping a clean sheet while playing a heavily rotated side.
Indeed, Arne Slot gave a number of young players a chance to shine in this game, and it's fair to say that one player took his opportunity.
Trey Nyoni is the man making all of the headlines after this match. The teenager put in a stellar performance against Real Betis, and speaking on the Official Liverpool Podcast, John Barnes has spoken highly of Nyoni, claiming that he was very impressed by the 17-year-old.

The Liverpool legend spoke about the young star.
"I thought all of the youngsters who came on in the second half did us proud, from Koumas, Nyoni who came on in the first-half was very impressive, he's only 17," Barnes said.
Barnes then later touched on how Nyoni impressed him later on.
"Also the thing about him that I saw. A lot of players at his age would play it safe and go backwards, but he looked forward, and when there were tight angles to play between people he plays it, he plays with maturity."

Nyoni has made a big impression on Barnes, and he's not the only one who rates the midfielder highly.
Indeed, people within Liverpool also really rate Nyoni too, as Paul Gorst outlined last year.
"He's only been there a few months and he's already making the bench for the senior games and they think massively of him at Kirkby, he's a bit of a goalscoring midfielder, he scored in the mini derby in Sepmtember, you can see why Liverpool made great efforts to get him from Leicester," Gorst said.
Nyoni is a player who could have a big future at Liverpool, and it wouldn't be a shock at all if he was a feature in the first-team this season as Arne Slot looks to stamp his authority at Anfield.
