A video of Chelsea goalkeeper Robert Sanchez’s mistakes while playing for Forest Green Rovers FC in League Two has gone viral on social media.
Sanchez, who joined Chelsea from Brighton in 2023, spent time on loan at Forest Green in the fourth tier of English football in the 2018-19 season.
It wasn’t a period to remember for Sanchez, who made a series of errors across his 17 appearances, with Forest Green posting a video on TikTok about his blunders when he moved to Stamford Bridge.
The clip has started circulating again in 2025 amid reports that Maresca is considering dropping Sanchez from his starting XI after recent mistakes.
Filip Jorgensen is waiting in the wings while Chelsea are also thought to be considering a move for Japan international goalkeeper Zion Suzuki.
Some pundits, including Jamie Carragher, have claimed that Chelsea will not be able to go to the next level until they bring in a better goalkeeper.
With pressure growing, the video of Sanchez’s Forest Green errors has been reposted by The Redmen TV on X, an account dedicated to all things Liverpool.
There are more than 1.4 million views on The Redmen TV’s version of the video as they aimed a dig at Sanchez in their caption.
‘Chelsea have made a million signings and they've ended up [with] Robert Sanchez in goal who was so bad on loan at Forest Green in 2018/19 that the official account put out a fail compilation on TikTok,’ they posted on X.
Responding to the clip, one Chelsea fan, @ZolaOsman92, said: ‘This is insane. I'm actually shocked. This guy is making a living by doing this?’
He then tagged Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly before adding: ‘Worst recruitment in our clubs history. Of all goalkeepers, you've decided, he's good enough? Embarrassing.’
Chelsea supporter @keloforifynn posted ‘this is so shameful’ before tagging the club as well as Blues co-sporting director Paul Winstanley.
Sanchez has played 42 games for Chelsea to date, keeping nine clean sheets for the west Londoners.
