Virgil van Dijk has reacted to a message from his Liverpool teammate Cody Gakpo on international duty amid increasing developments over his future back at Anfield.
Van Dijk’s agent has been contacted by Bayern Munich, as they look to sound out a potential summer move for the Dutchman, Mick Brown told Football Insider exclusively.
The former Celtic defender has been free to speak to teams since January, with his Liverpool contract expiring in the summer.
Despite his coy responses when pressed on his future plans, Van Dijk will have received “loads of offers” since the close of the January window, claims Martin Keown.
In spite of all the rumours, the Netherlands captain seems focused on his team’s matches this international break and he reacted to a message from Gakpo whilst away.
Cody Gakpo says ‘everything on the line’
Gakpo and Van Dijk are both away on international duty with the Netherlands and they each played their part in a 2-2 draw with Spain in the Nations League quarter-final.
In spite of one-time Liverpool target Jorrel Hato being sent off, a goal from Gakpo and some resolute defending from the Red’s captain helped secure the first leg draw.
Following the match, the former PSV Eindhoven forward posted a series of images on Instagram, captioned: “Everything on the line this Sunday—See y'all in Spain”.
Gakpo’s captain for both the Oranje and Liverpool then liked the post, showing his support for the 25-year-old.

Football Insider Verdict
Having beaten out Man United to the signing of Gakpo, Liverpool have had to remain patient to get the best out of the Dutch forward.
The former PSV man has always had the skillset to become a top player, but has struggled to truly develop on his potential.
That has all changed this season, as Gakpo has already matched his goal tally from last year in 13 fewer appearances.

With Mohamed Salah out of contract and potentially on his way out, Liverpool are in desperate need of firepower.
Gakpo has proven this season he is ready and capable of leading the Reds from the front and his club may look to him in the coming years to be the main man at Anfield.
