Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk took to Instagram to celebrate their seventh win from seven Champions League games after their 2-1 victory over Lille on Tuesday (January 21).

The 33-year-old played the full 90 minutes as Liverpool secured qualification to the next round, keeping their 100 per cent Champions League record intact with a win over the French side.

Mohamed Salah opened the scoring just after the half-hour mark thanks to an inch-perfect through ball from midfielder Curtis Jones.

The visitors were reduced to ten men after Aissa Mandi was given a second yellow card for cynically tripping Luis Diaz in the 59th minute.

Canada international Jonathan David bagged the equaliser soon after, latching onto a loose ball after Konstantinos Tsimikas failed to clear his lines.

Harvey Elliot then secured the win for Liverpool after his long-distance effort took a heavy deflection off an opposition defender.

The Dutchman has been key for Arne Slot so far this season, starting all 29 of his games across all competitions, popping up with two goals, and providing one assist in his 2610 minutes of action.

Van Dijk took to Instagram after their 2-1 win over Lille to commemorate both that and their impressive record in this season’s competition.

Slot’s side currently sit six points clear at the top of the Premier League too as they prepare for a visit from Ipswich Town on Saturday (January 25).

Liverpool’s attention will then return to the Champions League with a trip to PSV, knowing a win would see them become the first team to secure a 100 per cent record in the new league phase.
