Josh Windass could be set to swap Sheffield Wednesday for Santos in a sensational January transfer, talkSPORT understands.
The Brazilian giants have submitted a bid for the 30-year-old in their quest to return to the top-tier.
Windass has earned rave reviews at Hillsborough this season having banged in ten Championship goals at the halfway stage.
It’s the most he has scored in England’s second-tier in what is his sixth campaign playing in the division.
That includes a 2025 goal of the season contender against Derby on New Year’s Day which saw Windass find the back of the net from inside his own half.
And his impressive form has caught the eye of Santos, who have formalised their interest in the ex-Wigan striker.
His former Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha – now in charge at Santos – is keen on a reunion with the player having worked with him from between March 2017-October 2017.
And speaking on the Sunday Edition with Shaun Custis & Henry Winter, Windass confirmed that an offer has indeed come in for him.
Custis commented on a reported £10million offer, which led to Windass quipping: “I don’t think it’s that much!”
Commenting on the bid and a potential reunion with Caixinha, Windass said: “I used to work with him.
“It came as a surprise this morning to be honest when my agent called me.”
Though Windass, who will become a free agent in the summer, ultimately remained coy on a switch, as he stated: “I love playing where I’m playing.
“Obviously when your contract is up and stuff like that, there’s always going to be talk like there always is.
“It came as a surprise this morning because I’ve not spoken to or seen Pedro in a long time.
“But it is what it is, when you’re in form, this sort of stuff happens.”
Windass was then reminded that three-time World Cup winner Pele spent 18 years at Santos.
To which he joked: “I know, he weren’t bad was he!
“I’m not sure if any Hull-born players have played in Brazil to be honest, so we’ll have to see.”
Should Windass decide for a new adventure in South America, he could trade in a play-off push for a title charge.
Wednesday currently sit tenth in the table – three points off the top six – while Santos currently sit top of the Brazilian Serie B.
