"Well on his way" – Manchester United youngster labelled 'fantastic', better things to come

Manchester United could really do with a reliable source of goals at the moment.

So far in seven Premier League games, Erik ten Hag’s side have found the back of the net only five times. Southampton are the only team to have scored less than them in England’s top division this season.

It probably doesn’t help that going into the campaign, the Red Devils placed their hopes on Rasmus Højlund. The 21-year-old found the back of the net 16 times in 43 games last season, with 10 of those goals coming in the Premier League.

That’s a good record for a youngster, especially in his first season at such a club, but for Manchester United to rely on him as their senior – indeed, arguably only – recognised striker was asking an awful lot.

Especially given his injury struggles.

Returning from injury, Rasmus Højlund has scored once in less than 200 minutes in the current campaign. Given the lack of options, Manchester United need to keep him fit and hope the goals come.

Denmark are also hoping that the youngster progresses, and caretaker national team manager Lars Knudsen believes better is on the way.

He’s quoted by Denmark’s PLBold as saying: “Rasmus must have the opportunity to really play his way back into his highest gear, and he is well on his way.

“Rasmus is a fantastic player, and he delivers a fine effort. He has a really high level. You have to remember that he has only just come back. This was only his third start this season, and he has basically missed an entire preseason.”
