West Ham transfer idea branded 'rather questionable' – Club unlikely to welcome January effort

West Ham United are unlikely to find FSV Mainz interested in talking about striker Jonathan Burkardt in the January transfer window.
That's according to Fussball Transfers, who report that is 'rather questionable' whether the German side would be interested in selling to West Ham or anyone else.
A report in England linked the Hammers with a move for the 24-year-old this week, with it believed that they'll enter the market for a striker in January.
Julen Lopetegui's side have struggled for goals all season, with summer signing Niclas Füllkrug yet to get up to full speed and Michail Antonio facing an extended spell on the sidelines after suffering a leg injury in a car accident.
Burkardt has been shining in the Bundesliga this season, with ten goals in 13 games so far and 11 goals in 14 games in all competitions, alongside two assists.
His goal rate has been impressive, and FT say this means he is both a 'sporting life insurance policy' and a 'silverware item' for Mainz.
This, coupled with a deal that runs until 2027 means they can look forward to a nice transfer fee in future when any clubs come calling for him. Thus, the idea of him being sold in January 'seems rather questionable'. In other words, why would Mainz sell to West Ham now? The answer is they wouldn't.
It seems FT want to pour cold water all over the idea at this moment in time, although perhaps a big money offer from West Ham will test that resolve in January.
