Kai Havertz was back at Stamford Bridge with Arsenal on Sunday – a place he knows well after making 139 appearances for Chelsea.

The German was sold to Arsenal in a £65m deal back in June 2023 – after netting 32 goals and providing 12 assists in those 139 outings – enjoying a much more productive time with the Gunners so far.

In 67 appearances for Arsenal before Sunday’s Premier League clash against Chelsea, the man born in Aachen has scored 21 goals and assisted a further eight.

Despite one of his goals in blue securing a UEFA Champions League title, Chelsea fans inside Stamford Bridge opted to aim a derogatory chant at Kai Havertz in the ninth minute on Sunday.

Chelsea fans call Kai Havertz a “reject”

Early on in west London, supporters could be heard chanting “Chelsea reject, Chelsea reject” at the Arsenal No.29 after he went to ground inside the box, during a tussle before a corner.

Clearly, the Stamford Bridge faithful do not hold Havertz in high regard, despite his strike to secure the UEFA Champions League back in 2021.

The 25-year-old thought he had silenced his haters in the 33rd minute with a poked finish beyond Robert Sanchez, putting his fingers to his lips as he ran off to celebrate, although VAR quickly ruled the goal out for offside.

Chelsea fans could be heard booing Havertz as he celebrated, and those boos quickly turned into celebratory jeers after Michael Oliver disallowed the strike.

How Arsenal No.29 performed on Stamford Bridge return

Havertz – whose presence dissuaded Benjamin Sesko to join Arsenal – endured a pretty miserable evening back in west London.

SofaScore shows that the £65m man failed to record a shot or register a single dribble, while he was also caught offside on four occasions.

Leandro Trossard also robbed Havertz of a tap-in after prodding the ball out of his reach in the final seconds.

Furthermore, Havertz completed just ten passes on a day where he was largely anonymous for the Gunners.

Perhaps those boos got inside the German’s head after all.
