Howe – who Thomas Frank admires – clearly respected the effort put in by Arne Slot’s men towards the final whistle, where that late strike by Chiesa had the Newcastle end of Wembley holding their collective breath.
In defeating Liverpool, the Newcastle boss became the first English manager to win a major trophy with a Premier League side since Harry Redknapp won the FA Cup with Portsmouth in 2008.
