What Trent Alexander-Arnold did to Tottenham fans after Lucas Bergvall scored as footage emerges
Today at 08:30 AM
Liverpool suffered a 1-0 defeat against Tottenham in the first leg of the Carabao Cup semi-final on Wednesday.
An 86th minute goal from Lucas Bergvall, who could have been sent off moments before, gives Spurs an advantage going into the second leg at Anfield, where Newcastle seem likeliest to await in the final after their 2-0 win at Arsenal.
Arne Slot opted to start Conor Bradley over Trent Alexander-Arnold in Wednesday’s Carabao Cup clash, although the England international was introduced in the 60th minute.
It was a relatively joyless evening for the Liverpool No.66 – who saw a shot cleared off the line by Radu Dragusin – and he was caught on camera making an interesting hand gesture to Tottenham fans after Lucas Bergvall scored.
Trent Alexander-Arnold mocks Spurs for 6-3 defeat against Liverpool
The 26-year-old was seemingly trying to retrieve the ball for Liverpool to kick off quickly as Tottenham players celebrated, where he was met by jeers from hundreds of Spurs fans.
As Alexander-Arnold began to walk away, he could be seen holding up six fingers to supporters, in what was an apparent way of mocking the north Londoners for their recent 6-3 defeat against Liverpool.
Either that, or the man born in West Derby was keen to emphasise the fact Liverpool have six European cups to their name.
Clearly, the Tottenham fans at that end of the stadium got inside Alexander-Arnold’s head.
Trent Alexander-Arnold could leave Liverpool
This season could be the last chance Alexander-Arnold has to add to his haul of silverware at Liverpool.
Real Madrid are keen to sign Alexander-Arnold on a free transfer this summer when his contract expires, and if that move begins to progress, he will surely want to end his time on Merseyside with at least one trophy to celebrate.
Regardless of what happens in the second leg against Tottenham, the right-back still has an excellent chance of doing exactly that, with Liverpool sitting top of both the Premier League and UEFA Champions League as things stand.
