Why a move to West Ham might be appealing for Aston Villa's Jhon Duran?

West Ham United have endured a disappointing 2024-25 campaign, winning seven of their 22 matches to 14th in the Premier League standings.

The Hammers finally parted company with Julen Lopetegui earlier this month, installing Graham Potter as their new head coach.

The English boss led West Ham to a 3-2 triumph over Fulham, but his side slumped to a 2-0 defeat against Crystal Palace at the weekend.

Given the injuries to several key players, it is clear that the Irons need to bring in reinforcements in the current January window, particularly in attack.

According to The Athletic's David Ornstein, the East Londoners submitted a £57 million offer to sign Aston Villa star Jhon Duran.

But their proposal is expected to be rejected by Villa, who reportedly have no intention of selling the 21-year-old.

However, West Ham still have a chance to land the talented striker as a move to the London Stadium might be appealing for him.

Duran has been excellent with his performances for the Lions this term, scoring seven goals in 19 Premier League appearances.

But he has started only four top-flight matches under manager Unai Emery, with Ollie Watkins his preferred central striker.

Given Watkins' numbers have also been highly impressive, Duran is unlikely to become Emery's main man at Villa Park.

The Colombia international was frustrated with his first-team opportunities and asked to leave the club in the summer.

West Ham had a perfect opportunity to seal a move for him then, but they were not willing to pay a premium fee.

The Hammers went on to sign Niclas Fullkrug for £27 million and that proved to be a huge mistake.

Fullkrug is rarely available for selection as he is always struggling with injury issues.

However, Duran's situation at Villa hasn't massively improved as Watkins is still the preferred centre-forward.

Therefore, West Ham still have an opportunity to acquire the 21-year-old's services.

The Colombian might be interested in joining them, as he would be their number one striker at the London Stadium.
