Arsenal are prepared to pay over Martin Zubimendi’s release clause and the reason why has just been revealed.

Arsenal are set to sign Zubimendi next summer with Mikel Arteta’s side having made an early move to secure his signature ahead of the competition.

Real Madrid and Liverpool were also in the race for Zubimendi, however, he is expected to arrive at the Emirates Stadium instead.

A deal for the Spanish international will be fairly straightforward as the player has a £50.5 million release clause in his contract at Real Sociedad, but Arsenal are ready to pay more than that to land him.

Arsenal are willing to pay more than Martin Zubimendi’s release clause

Arsenal are willing to pay more than Martin Zubimendi’s £50.5 million release clause in order to secure him on better payment terms, according to David Ornstein.

Currently, a deal for the midfielder would require the North London club to make a straight payment to land him and this could limit their spending ability.

So to avoid being limited in what they can do elsewhere, Arsenal are prepared to offer Sociedad slightly more money but with payments staggered.

Ornstein told NBC Sports: “The release clause in his contract is 60 million euros, my understanding is that they might look to pay a bit more so that they can stagger the payments and that would allow them to do other business in next summer’s transfer window.”

Could Real Madrid or Liverpool still move for Martin Zubimendi?

TBR Football understands that Liverpool have no plans to challenge Arsenal for Zubimendi’s signature, despite their pursuit of him last summer.

But, that is not the case with Real Madrid ho remain interested and this is why the Gunners are trying to wrap up a deal now ahead of the summer.

Although Arsenal remain confident of finalising a deal for the 24-year-old, sources have told TBR Football, despite interest from arguably Europe’s biggest club.
