Salford City’s clash with Fleetwood Town has been postponed this weekend despite all but two League Two games going ahead.

The Class of 92-owned club were set to make the short journey to the Lancashire coast for this encounter, but the match has been cancelled and will be re-arranged.

Neither side have started the season that well, with Salford sitting just above the relegation zone with two draws and one defeat.

Meanwhile, Fleetwood are sat in mid-table after one win, and they would have been looking for another victory to move up the table.

However, they are the reason that the game has been postponed.

Why is Fleetwood vs Salford off?

Well, the game has been cancelled because Fleetwood requested for it to be.

The Cod Army have over three players away on international duty, meaning under EFL rules, they were allowed to ask for the match to be postponed.

The EFL don’t have to accept this request, but they have granted it, so Karl Robinson has a bit of time off.

The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, September 7 at 3pm but will be put back.

Charlie Adam‘s side have had four academy players called up for the upcoming international break.

Reece Wilkes has been named in the England Under-16s side for two games against Italy while Raff Cirino has been called up for the senior Montserrat national team.

And Jack Doherty has also been included in Northern Ireland’s Under-19s squad for their games against Norway and Slovakia.

Fellow Northern Irish youth defender Conor Haughey is on standby as well.

Of those four players called up, none of them have featured in Fleetwood’s first team this season.

Wilkes, Cirino, Doherty and Haughey are yet to make their senior debuts for Fleetwood.

However, they are the only international call-ups for Fleetwood.

With them leaving the squad, the Cod Army were entitled to ask for a postponement, and the EFL have granted it.

This gives both teams a weekend off, and the game will be rearranged later in the season.

Tranmere vs Wimbledon is the other game postponed and the situation is the same for those two sides.

Notts County, MK Dons and Doncaster are among the teams still set to play in League Two this weekend.
