Cody Gakpo was absolutely furious in the 29th minute as Liverpool recorded a 3-1 win over AC Milan in the UEFA Champions League.

The Netherlands international delivered a fantastic performance inside the San Siro to help Arne Slot get off to the perfect start in Europe, and also to ensure the Reds bounced back from Saturday’s 1-0 defeat against Nottingham Forest in style.

However – during the UEFA Champions League clash – Cody Gakpo could be seen going berserk at one Liverpool teammate…

Cody Gakpo rages at Diogo Jota in AC Milan 1-3 Liverpool

Diogo Jota had an excellent chance to put Liverpool 2-1 ahead just six minutes after Ibrahima Konate cancelled out Christian Pulisic’s opener.

However, as the Portugal international found himself within range of Mike Maignan’s goal, he inexplicably decided to shoot, rather than square the ball for Gakpo to tap home.

Understandably, the Liverpool No.18 was livid with Jota’s selfishness, screaming in anger at the bizarre decision making on show.

Stephen Warnock – who praised Gakpo – also picked up on the incident while covering the game for BBC Radio 5 Live, saying: “It is greedy. Not good enough from Jota, he has to square. Gakpo is furious.”

Fortunately for the Liverpool No.20, Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai scored to secure a 3-1 win for the Reds, sparing his blushes in the process.

Netherlands international was superb

Gakpo deserved a goal for his efforts in Milan on Tuesday night, as the Dutchman was absolutely fantastic against the Italian giants.

SofaScore shows that the man from Eindhoven made two key passes – one of which assisted a goal – while he also completed four successful dribbles.

Furthermore, Gakpo – who was also brilliant at UEFA Euro 2024 – showed his industrial side by winning six ground duels against Paulo Fonseca’s side, on a night where he surely impressed Slot tremendously with his spirited display.

After starting on the bench in all four Premier League games so far this season, the 25-year-old may well have earned himself a start for the next league game thanks to his performance in Milan.
