William Saliba has reacted after Lucas Digne posted a “disappointing” update while on international duty with France.
Saliba has been a crucial part of Arsenal‘s squad yet again this season, as they attempt to win the first Champions League title in the club’s history.
Following the demolition of PSV Eindhoven, the Gunners will play Real Madrid in the quarter-final of Europe’s top club competition.
However, the Arsenal star and his international teammate Digne suffered a disappointing moment on Thursday (20 March) evening.
France lose Nations League quarter-final match against Croatia
Digne and his France teammates lost the first leg of their Nations League quarter-final match-up against Croatia, 2-0.
The match, a repeat of the 2018 World Cup final, was decided by goals from Ante Budimir, and former Tottenham man Ivan Perisic.
Following the loss, Digne posted an image of himself during the defeat, captioned: “Soirée frustrante mais il reste une bataille dimanche”, which translates to: “Frustrating evening but battle still on Sunday”.
The post was liked by Saliba, who featured alongside the Aston Villa defender.
France will have the opportunity to avenge the defeat when they play the second leg at the Stade de France on Sunday (23 March).
Arsenal in danger of losing duo of William Saliba and Gabriel
Football Insider Verdict
Al-Nassr have revived their interest in Gabriel Magalhaes, having had a blockbuster £100million move rebuffed in 2023.
The Saudi Pro League side are reportedly preparing to make a move for the Brazilian defender in the summer.
Gabriel has been one half of an indomitable duo alongside Saliba at the heart of Arsenal’s defence in recent years.
2024/25 Premier League stats | Saliba | Gabriel |
Appearances | 27 | 27 |
Starts | 27 | 27 |

However, with the Gunners struggling to turn their good performances into titles and trophies, there are concerns that some of their best players may look to move on.
Saliba is a target for Real Madrid, and despite the Frenchman making clear his intentions to remain at Arsenal for now, the allure of moving to the most successful club in the world is a difficult one to resist for long.
