Wolves and Sunderland alarm bells, 'Celtic teen Cummings could follow Ferguson'

Wolves and Sunderland look as though they have been dealt a threatening blow in their pursuit of Celtic striker Daniel Cummings.
Last month, Football Insiderexclusively revealed that the pair, along with Fulham, Ipswich and Burnley are tracking the 18-year-old ahead of a potential move.
Cummings has been in prolific form for the Scottish giants’ B-team in recent seasons, scoring a flurry of goals to attract attention from south of the border.
That ability, combined with his high resale value at such a young age, mean he could be a major asset for the likes of Wolves and Sunderland if they can secure his services from Celtic.
Indeed, those at Molineux particularly need a lift given their struggles in the Premier League relegation battle.
Now though, it seems clubs in England have fresh cause to be concerned about their chances of securing a deal for the young striker.
Wolves and Sunderland facing fresh competition for signing of Celtic talent
Amid that interest in Cummings from England, it seems clubs from even further afield are now taking an interest in the striker as well.
According to an update from Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph, Italian side Bologna, Belgian outfit Club Brugge and Austrian giants RB Salzburg all also now interested in the Celtic striker.
Cummings’ contract with the Scottish champions is due to expire at the end of this season, with his current club apparently yet to offer him a new deal.
That means other sides can agree a pre-contract deal with the striker from next month for the summer, and that interest from Bologna could be a particular concern for Wolves, Sunderland and co.
The Serie A outfit have already had huge success with one Scottish signing in recent years in the form of Lewis Ferguson.
Ex-Rangers Lewis Ferguson captains Bologna after Aberdeen move
Having joined Bologna from Aberdeen back in the summer of 2022, the midfielder has enjoyed plenty of success out on Italy.
Despite a recent long-term injury, he has still established himself as a key figure for the club, earning the captain’s armband and playing in the Champions League.
His form has seen him linked with some of the biggest clubs in Italy in the form of Juventus and Napoli (Sky Sports), and so the chance to follow that sort of career path could surely be tempting for Cummings.
Indeed, as a fellow Scotsman, Ferguson himself could potentially even have a role to play in convincing the young striker that a move to Bolgona from Celtic is a good one for him to make.
All of that may mean that Wolves, Sunderland, and the chasing pack from south of the border will surely now have some worries that their job in convincing Cummings to join them has just become a whole lot harder.
In other news, Celtic have been tipped to act in the January transfer window after recent comments from Brendan Rodgers.
