Newcastle United just weren’t at the races against Fulham at the weekend as two first-half goals and a late third saw Eddie Howe’s side beaten.

The Magpies had 62% of the possession at Craven Cottage, but they just weren’t able to find many inroads, despite Harvey Barnes‘ third goal in as many games in the Premier League.

Newcastle were unbeaten prior to Saturday’s defeat, but they still find themselves in sixth position.

Off the field issues have been hanging over the club in recent times, as Eddie Howe and Paul Mitchell appear to be in a rift after the transfer window mistakes that were made.

Mitchell’s Newcastle future has been cast into doubt, but he remains of the opinion that he will stay and fight through the controversy at the club.

Interestingly, Craig Hope thinks he’s spotted another concern for Newcastle.

Craig Hope spots concerning Anthony Gordon body language

Anthony Gordon was hailed as one of the best players in the Premier League by Jamie Carragher after his performance against Wolves.

However, things didn’t work out for him at Craven Cottage as he grew visibly frustrated against a Fulham side that defended well at times.

And, Craig Hope, when speaking on his YouTube channel, stated that he saw Anthony Gordon‘s body language drop against Fulham.

“You’ve now got Anthony Gordon who’s you know the phrases being picked up among you guys, supporters, and his body language.

“There was one incident down at Fulham on Sunday where he gives a lazy sort of clearance and I never thought I would use that word with regards to Anthony Gordon, wow you know what I think of him.

“His shoulders sort of drop when it falls to a Fulham player and then they nearly score from it, so yeah Gordon is a concern.”

Anthony Gordon’s performance in numbers vs Fulham

Gordon started on the right-hand side of the midfield due to Harvey Barnes starting on the left against Fulham.

The midfielder played 83 minutes before being replaced by William Osula.

During that time he had one shot on target, 48 touches, a passing accuracy of 75%, made two key passes, lost six of his 11 duels, lost possession 16 times and had one error that led to a shot.

It wasn’t the most exciting of performances from Gordon and he’ll be desperate to improve, but to be fair to him he’s been pretty good up until this point so there are always bound to be off games.

It’s just the things like the negative body language and lack of effort that needs cutting out.
