'You are top': Micky van de Ven seriously impressed with one Tottenham player after watching him vs Liverpool
Today at 01:35 AM
Tottenham Hotspur picked up a 1-0 win over Liverpool in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final clash.
Spurs went into the game on Wednesday night as the underdogs. Nobody really expected Ange Postecoglou’s side to get a result after they were battered 6-3 by the Reds just over two weeks ago.
However, Tottenham started the game very well, withstood Liverpool’s attacks when they had to, and then picked up a win thanks to Lucas Bergvall’s late goal.
A number of players deserve praise for their performance for Spurs. Dominic Solanke is definitely one of them.
Micky van de Ven praises Dominic Solanke after Tottenham beat Liverpool
Solanke led the line once again for Tottenham on Wednesday night.
The Englishman was playing against his old club and he was sharp from the start. He worked incredibly hard, held the ball up when he had to and even assisted the winner.
Solanke scored a goal too in the second half, but unfortunately for him and Tottenham, it was ruled out by the VAR for offside.
Despite that, Solanke’s performance deserves a lot of praise, and Ange Postecoglou waxed lyrical about him in his post-match press conference.
Solanke took to Instagram to celebrate the win after the game on Wednesday night, and he received a lot of love from his teammates and fans.
An impressed Micky van de Ven wrote: “You are top!”
Here’s how the likes of Mikey Moore, Djed Spence and Spurs old-boy Kyle Walker-Peters reacted to his performance:
How Tottenham can help Solanke get even better
There were a few eyebrows raised when Tottenham spent £65 million to sign Solanke in the summer.
Everyone knew that the Englishman was a good striker, but there were concerns over whether he would be able to justify his price tag.
However, after 11 goals and six assists in 27 appearances, it’s safe to say that Solanke has been a fantastic signing for Tottenham.
Games | Goals | Assists | |
Premier League | 17 | 7 | 3 |
Europa League | 6 | 2 | 2 |
EFL Cup | 4 | 2 | 1 |
Now, Tottenham should help Solanke by bringing in another striker.
The 27-year-old has had to play almost every game because Richarlison has barely been available. That has taken its toll – Postecoglou has not been able to rest Solanke even though he has wanted to.
Spurs have been linked with Randal Kolo Muani. If the North Londoners can get him, we think Solanke will get even better as he won’t have to play every minute.
