Tottenham won their Europa League opener on Thursday evening against Qarabag in solid fashion.

Indeed, Spurs beat the Azerbaijani outfit 3-0 on Thursday despite playing most of the game with 10 men.

Tottenham were very impressive on the day, and while the likes of Brennan Johnson and Dominic Solanke will get the headlines for their goals, Spurs' defenders also deserve a lot of credit.

While Spurs may have won 3-0, there were some moments where the defence needed to be called into action on the night, and Tottenham's backline did step up.

Speaking after the game, Dejan Kulusevski has reserved some special praise for Destiny Udogie.

Kulusevski was initially asked about Solanke's goal, but he quickly pivoted to praise Udogie, claiming that nobody should forget the young Italian's contribution in this game.

Dejan Kulusevski praises Destiny Udogie

Kulusevski spoke highly of the £15m defender.

"Dominic scoring, that's two in two for him," The interviewer said.

"Yeah, like you said our front players are scoring and that's very important, but I think the whole team was very good today. Destiny coming in from the bench, being cold and saving two goals, you can't forget players like him," Kulusevski said.

Destiny Udogie was razor sharp

Kulusevski is right to praise Udogie – the Italian did a brilliant job against Qarabag.

Udogie won't have been anticipating entering the game so early, but Radu Dragusin's red card forced Spurs into a reshuffle, and that meant that Udogie had to enter the fray early doors.

As Kulusevski says, Udogie would've been cold and not ready to play necessarily, but he came on and looked immediately ready to make a difference.

The left-back put in a stellar performance, and while defenders can often be forgotten about in a 3-0 win, Udogie deserves plenty of praise for his performance here.
