Liverpool are currently sitting pretty at the top of the Premier League, but they're not seen by many as one of the favourites for the Premier League title.

Indeed, Manchester City and Arsenal are still being discussed as the two sides most likely to win the Premier League this season.

However, Paul Scholes sees things rather differently.

According to the pundit, Liverpool are in fact a better team than Arsenal, and he expects the Reds to be Manchester City's closest challengers this season.

Interestingly, while a Manchester United legend was full of praise for Liverpool, Jamie Carragher actually shot down this view, claiming that he disagrees and he believes Arsenal are in fact better than Liverpool.

Paul Scholes says Liverpool are better than Arsenal

Scholes and Carragher had a disagreement about how good Liverpool are.

"I think you're better than Arsenal," Scholes said.

"You think we're better than Arsenal? That's interesting? I don't actually," Carragher said.

"The squad, and possibly the team yeah, they excite me more. It's not nice saying that, but Liverpool do excite me more, everything they have feels better than Arsenal. I think Pep could be more worried about Liverpool than he is Arsenal," Scholes replied.

Liverpool are ahead of Arsenal

Arsenal have been Manchester City's closest challengers over the past two years, but there is still a case to make that Liverpool are the better side.

Indeed, the Reds did win a trophy last season and they are currently ahead of Arsenal in the Premier League.

Arsenal are a top side, but they are currently behind Liverpool in the league, and they don't have as impressive a trophy haul in recent years.

Whether or not Liverpool or Arsenal can go on to win the Premier League this season remains to be seen, but it wouldn't be a surprise if both teams are in the mix come the end of this campaign.
