Match Report: Alloa Ath 2-2 ICTFC

Alloa Athletic battled back from 2-0 down to earn a point against Caley Thistle at The Indodrill Stadium.

Danny Devine’s early strike gave Caley Thistle the lead and Calum MacLeod’s strike in the second-half put Caley Thistle 2-0 up.

Inspired by Conor Sammon’s introduction, the substitute got Alloa back in the match with a great header while Luke Donnelly levelled things up moments later.

Duncan Ferguson made one change from last weekend’s SPFL Trust Trophy win against Stirling Albion as Luis Longstaff returned from injury to replace Connall Ewan in the starting eleven. Jack Newman and Keith Bray returned to take places on the bench.

It took just 7 minutes for Caley Thistle to take the lead, James Nolan’s whipped in free-kick wasn’t fully cleared by the Alloa defence and it fell to Danny Devine on the edge of the box, who unleashed a great strike past PJ Morrison via the post.

Adam MacKinnon went close for Caley Thistle after 26 minutes, the visitors went on a quick counter attack which saw Savage tee up the midfielder just inside the box but his effort was turned over for a corner.

Right before half-time, Adam Brooks was put through on goal by a great ball by Calum MacLeod but the striker was forced to a tight angle and his effort was saved by PJ Morrison.

Billy Mckay also had a great chance before half time as good pressing from Caley Thistle saw them win the ball up the pitch but his effort was deflected wide.

Calum MacLeod went close to doubling Caley Thistle’s lead right after the break. The midfielder drove forward and saw his effort come off the post while Adam Brooks couldn’t get on the rebound in the box.

MacLeod did find the back of the net after 67 minutes, the midfielder was released by Adam Brooks’ pass as he drove into the box and his low effort went into the bottom corner past PJ Morrison.

Alloa got themselves back into the match with the introduction of Conor Sammon. The striker found the back of the net moments after coming on as he met Cammy O’Donnell’s cross in the box to head past Musa Dibaga.

Alloa were level after 73 minutes, Luke Taggart’s long throw was flicked on by Conor Sammon in the box and finished by Luke Donnelly to level the match.

The home side’s tails were up after getting the equaliser but the match ended all square with Caley Thistle frustrated after leading 2-0.
