The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, Episode 256: Juventus get back on track in Udine
Yesterday at 12:00 PM
Coming off a sub-par showing against one of Serie A's new clubs, Juventus were able to right the ship with a much-needed win over Udinese that saw some positives take place after some worrying signs earlier in the week.
It's obviously too early to tell just how much of an impact Saturday's win over Udinese will make on Juventus, but in real time it's hard not to say that it was a much-needed victory for Thiago Motta's squad.
Juve entered the weekend in the kind of form that had many starting to worry, with back-to-back draws happening in two very different kinds of ways. It was the second of those two draws, a 2-2 scoreline against newly promoted Parma, that provided a lot of the question marks about where this team was at and the struggles they suddenly found themselves dealing with. The Derby d'Italia may have been a perfect storm of chaos at the San Siro, but not beating a Parma side that had just one win to their name so far this season on your home turf, that was a worrying sign.
The good news was that the Juventus we saw against Parma was not present when Juventus stepped onto the turf at the Friuli. The defense was better. The midfielder was more dynamic, and the overall product was simply an improvement over what we saw a few days earlier. It's not the be-all, end-all cure for Juve's early season inconsistencies, but it can prove to be a start.
On Episode 256 of The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, we discuss:
- Takeaways from the week that was.
- Thoughts on Juventus' win over Udinese, which was a much more enjoyable watch tnan Juve's 2-2 draw with Parma earlier in the week.
- The improving form of midfielders like Manuel Locatelli and Khephren Thuram.
- The not-so-improving form of Juve captain Danilo.
- Are we starting to worry about Dusan Vlahovic's lack of consistent goal scoring form again?
- Twitter questions — including what things might look like when things fully click on with Teun Koopmeiners and the rest of the midfield, why hasn't Thiago Motta entrusted a young player to potentially back up Dusan Vlahovic like he's done with other players on the roster, and just how much of a priority is a signing in centrel defense come the January transfer window.
