It took until the final weekend of January, but Juventus finally have a number other than zero in the loss column in Serie A, with league leaders Napoli handing Thiago Motta's squad their first loss of the 2024-25 season in dramatic fashion.

On the 22nd matchday of the Serie A calendar, Juventus finally have a loss to their record. With all the draws that Thiago Motta's squad have recorded, the previously undefeated record didn't feel all that special, but before Saturday night there still wasn't a loss attached to Juventus' name so far this season.

Then the second half in Naples happened.

And so went Juve's unbeaten record in Serie A.

League-leading Napoli didn't just flip the score in their favorite after halftime, they absolutely dismantled Juventus after the Bianconeri took a 1-0 lead right before halftime through new signing Randal Kolo Muani. Juve's second-half performance was simply brutal and Napoli took full advantage of it, with Antonio Conte teaching his former side a lesson.

So now Juve have a loss in Serie A, and all of a week after one of their best performances of the season in a win over AC Milan the complete opposite happens against Napoli. Funny how that works, isn't it?

On Episode 269 of The Old Lady Speaks Podcast, we discuss:

  • Takeaways from a Juventus week that was ... not great.
  • So what happened against Napoli in Saturday's 2-1 loss at the Maradona? How did Juve go from playing well in the first half to being a complete disaster after halftime?
  • A look at the Champions League situation and some of the possible scenarios entering the final matchday later this week. (Hint: it's going to be silly.)
  • Juventus are still active on the transfer market, with Chelsea defender Renato Veiga set to join the club on loan for the second half of the season.
  • Questions from social media — including how much grace should Thiago Motta be given if Juventus don't qualify for the Champions League this season?
