Chelsea have signed 18-year-old Barcelona forward Marc Guiu after activating his €6m release clause. The much-rumoured deal was confirmed on Monday evening by both clubs.
Barcelona had tried to give Guiu a new deal, but the teenage forward had doubt about his pathway to the first team, with Robert Lewandowski and Vitor Roque ahead of him in the pecking order. It is believed he was also disappointed in the offer from Barcelona.
Chelsea have signed him on a five-year deal, with Marca reporting that he will earn a €1m salary per annum, which is believed to be some way in excess of what Barcelona were willing to pay. He also highlighted during his official statement that part of the reason for him joining Chelsea was the exciting project.
For Marc Guiu and his grandfather, a move to the @PremierLeague and a club like Chelsea was always the dream destination.

Guiu made his senior debut this season for Barcelona, scoring the winner against Athletic Club. He would score again against Royal Antwerp in the Champions League, one of six further cameos. He spent most of the season with Barca Atletic in the third tier though, and Sevilla have been spoken about as a potential destination for Guiu on loan next season.
