3 managers Wycombe Wanderers must consider as Matt Bloomfield leaves for Luton Town

Wycombe Wanderers have confirmed the departure of Matt Bloomfield, who leaves to take charge of Luton Town.
Wycombe Wanderers are in need of a new boss following the departure of club legend Matt Bloomfield.
The 40-year-old has headed to Championship side Luton Town, where he replaces the departed Rob Edwards. He’ll be tasked with leading the Hatters away from the relegation picture and up the table after a dismal campaign to date.
Bloomfield lifted the Chairboys into the League One promotion fight and his replacement will be tasked with maintaining that push. It’s a task easier said than done, but that will be the clear aim of the Adams Park hierarchy.
With that said, here are three bosses Wycombe Wanderers must consider to replace Bloomfield…
Des Buckingham
Perhaps a controversial suggestion given Buckingham’s close affiliation with former side and hometown club Oxford United, but he could be a solid appointment for Wycombe Wanderers to make.
He led the U’s to promotion from League One just last season and although form had dipped, he had them in a respectable position in the Championship prior to his surprise sacking.
Buckingham has been based locally recently, which could work in the Chairboys’ favour if they want to take him to Adams Park.
Steven Schumacher
There are a fair few clubs who have made managerial changes where Steven Schumacher might have been in with a shot of getting the job. And, it seems likely that links between him and the Wycombe Wanderers job emerge.
Schumacher is another boss with a League One promotion on his record, winning the title with Plymouth Argyle. He helped consolidate their place in the league last season but left during the campaign for Stoke City, who sacked him early this season.
After the big blow of losing Bloomfield, Schumacher is another figure capable of galvanising the group and building a strong bond with the fans.
Jon Herdman
Last but not least is a little more left-field suggestion, but Jon Herdman could be an intriguing option for the decision makers at Wycombe Wanderers to keep in mind.
His time with Toronto FC didn’t go as hoped in his first foray into club management but he famously led Canada to the World Cup in 2022. And, born in Consett, England, a shot at club management on home shores could be tempting.
It may be a gamble for the Chairboys, but Herdman may be an exciting option to keep in mind.
