Charlton Athletic have made a decent start to the new League One season under Nathan Jones.
Charlton Athletic have picked up nine points from their first four league fixtures. They won their first three games on the spin against Wigan Athletic, Leyton Orient and Bolton Wanderers.
However, they were beaten 2-0 away at Reading last time out so will be keen to bounce back with a positive result at home to Rotherham United this weekend.
The Addicks delved into the transfer window over the summer to bring in the likes of Greg Dochety, Gassam Ahadme, Josh Edwards and Luke Berry, among others, to bolster their ranks as they eye promotion to the Championship.
They also cut ties with Alfie May, George Dobson and Jack Payne to clear up space and funds in their ranks to pave the way for arrivals. Here is a look at three players who they may be disappointed they missed out on signing…
Karl Hein
Charlton Athleticsaw a loan move for the Arsenal goalkeeper hijacked by Real Vallodolid. He would have been a useful acquisition and would have added more competition and depth to their options between the sticks.
Hein, 22, has been on the books at the Emirates Stadium since 2018 after joining them as a youngster from Nomme United and he has since played once for their first-team. He has also had a loan spell away from the Gunners at Reading in the past to get some experience.
Asmir Begovic
The stopper was linked with a switch to The Valley following his exit from QPR in the Championship. However, a move didn’t materialise in the end and he has now join Everton on a free transfer in the top flight.
The 37-year-old could have injected more experience into Jones’ squad and would have been a useful person to have in and around the dressing room. He has made just under 450 appearances in his career to date and has had stints at Portsmouth, Stoke City, Chelsea and AFC Bournemouth.
Theo Bair
Charlton Athletic were admirers of the Canada international and he would have been an eye-catching signing if they had got him. He joined Auxerre in France from Motherwell.
The striker scored 15 goals in 41 games during his time at Fir Park. He has featured for the likes of Vancouver Whitecaps and St Johnstone over recent years and is now embarking on a new challenge in Ligue 1.
