Barnsley could turn to MK Dons boss Mike Williamson as they hunt for a new manager, reports Alan Nixon.

Barnsley currently have Martin Devaney in interim charge following their decision to part ways with Neill Collins.

The Tykes have reached the League One play-offs again this year following their weekend draw with Northampton Town and will face Bolton Wanderers at the semi-finals stage.

According to reporter Nixon on his Patreon, they are admirers of Williamson at Milton Keynes Dons.

Who is this?

Barnsley eye League Two boss

Barnsley could see Williamson as the man to take them forward but their immediate focus will be on getting promoted to the Championship.

They lost in the final last year to Sheffield Wednesday at Wembley and will be hoping that they can get over the line this time around.

Williamson has the play-offs coming up too with Milton Keynes Dons. They finished 4th in the fourth tier and will face Crawley Town over two legs.

The 40-year-old spent his playing career with the likes of Southampton, Portsmouth and Newcastle United before officially hanging up his boots.

Gateshead handed him his first managerial role in 2019 and he guided them to promotion from the National League North in 2022.

He also got the North East outfit to the FA Trophy final last year before he was lured to the Football League.

The ex-Premier League defender has done a decent job since his switch to Stadium.mk and has won 20 of his 36 matches in charge so.

However, the Dons missed out on the top three to Stockport County, Wrexham and Mansfield Town in the end.

They could face a battle to keep their head coach this summer with Barnsley linked with a swoop.
