Barnsley interim boss Conor Hourihane has said Dexter Lembikisa and Clement Rodrigues are back in ‘contention’ to play this evening.

Barnsley are back in action tonight at home against Exeter City. They are sat in 11th place in the League One table and are eight points off the play-offs with seven fixtures left to play this season.

The Tykes drew 1-1 away at Wigan Athletic last time out with Davis Keillor-Dunn getting their goal. Both Lembikisa and Rodrigues sat out against the Latics.

In this latest update regarding the pair, Hourihane has said, as per a report by the Barnsley Chronicle: “Dexter and Clem were out of the squad but they will be in contention going into tomorrow and champing at the bit.

“Dexter only came back into training on Friday after a long time away and a lot of travelling. We had done a lot of work on Wigan prior to him coming back so I felt it was best for him to train Friday and Saturday, get his body moving again, then get back into proper training this week.”

Barnsley selection update regarding Dexter Lembikisa and Clement Rodrigues

Having Lembikisa and Rodrigues free to feature is a boost for Barnsley. They give Hourihane more options to pick from.

The Tykes’ campaign is starting to fizzle out and they could do with getting a couple of wins this week to ensure the gap between them and 6th position doesn’t get even bigger.

Lembikisa arrived at Oakwell on loan in January and was given the green light to leave Wolves to get some more experience under his belt.

The 21-year-old, who is a Jamaica international with 24 caps to his name, has been on the books at Molineux for his whole career to date. He has played four times for the Premier League outfit and has also had spells away at Rotherham United, Hearts and Yverdon-Sport to boost his development.

As for Rodrigues, Barnsley swooped to sign him on a temporary basis as well earlier this winter from Bastia. He was brought in to boost their attacking department.

The Frenchman has played five matches for the Yorkshire club so far. He hasn’t scored yet and will be eager to get off the mark.

Will Barnsley make the play-offs?

Getting into the top six is unlikely for Barnsley now unless they can string a solid run of form together. They are winless in their last five matches.

They have a big decision to make regarding their permanent managerial position. Hourihane was placed in caretaker charge following Darrell Clarke’s sacking.
