Berry starts: Charlton Athletic team news and predicted XI to face Rotherham United

Charlton Athletic host Rotherham United this weekend as they look to recover from their first defeat of the League One campaign.
Charlton Athletic have enjoyed a good start to the 2024/25 campaign but will be looking to bounce back to winning ways this weekend.
The Addicks were beaten by Reading last weekend, ending their perfect start to the season. Charlie Savage and Sam Smith scored for the Royals as they ran out 2-0 winners in Berkshire.
Nevertheless, it’s been a strong start for Nathan Jones and co. They sit 6th in the table with nine points from a possible 12 at this stage and are widely backed to fight it out at the right end of League One this year after some tough seasons since dropping from the Championship.
Rotherham United are tipped for success too, though they only won their first game of the season last time out. It was a good victory too, beating a previously perfect Huddersfield Town side.

Thankfully for Jones and Charlton Athletic, there are no new concerns that have arisen ahead of the Rotherham United tie. In fact, the Addicks will welcome two previously absent players back to contention.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, the Welshman confirmed midfielder Luke Berry and wing-back Tennai Watson will be in contention after returning to training.
The duo had struggled with illness but have recovered. Watson was out of the squad completely for the Reading game while Berry started but only managed the first-half before Karoy Anderson took his place.
Josh Edwards is still on the road to recovery but his injury picked up against Leyton Orient is not as bad as first feared. Miles Leaburn has been stepping up his return to fitness but Jones has stressed they will be patient with his comeback.
Predicted XI
(3-5-2)
Mannion; A. Mitchell, Jones, Gillesphey; Ramsay, Berry, Docherty, Coventry, Small; Campbell, Ahadme.
Jones has had a fairly set Charlton Athletic starting XI in the early stages of the season and while they were beaten last time out, it seems unlikely that there will be drastic changes to the side here.
Will Mannion has affirmed his place as the number one since signing and will likely retain his spot. Alex Mitchell, Lloyd Jones and Macauley Gillesphey look to be the trio preferred in front of him in the back three.
At wing-back, Kayne Ramsay will probably retain his place despite Watson’s return and Thierry Small will stay in while Edwards recovers.
The recently ill Berry should be okay to start but there are options if not. Allan Campbell and Karoy Anderson are two great backup players to consider alongside captain Greg Docherty and Conor Coventry.
Up top, currently goalless duo Gassan Ahadme and Tyreece Campbell continue to be backed and they will likely retain their places. Chuks Aneke and Matty Godden will be on the bench for Charlton Athletic while Leaburn is still on his way back to 100%.
