Birmingham City have joined West Brom in pursuit of Rangers defender Adam Devine, according to the Daily Mail (via the Daily Record).

Birmingham City are keen on luring the right-back to League One before the end of the transfer window. They are currently sat at the top of the table above Wycombe Wanderers and Wrexham as they chase down promotion.

Devine, 21, has been on the books at Rangers for his whole career to date and has risen up through their academy ranks. He is out of contract at the end of the season and is due to become a free agent as things stand.

According to the Daily Mail (via the Daily Record), the Blues are now interested in landing him this winter along with rivals West Brom. They have until the end of the January transfer window to bring in some new faces to further boost their ranks.

Birmingham City could see Devine as someone to bolster their defensive ranks.

If they did sign him, he would add competition and cover to their right-back position.

He was handed his last extension by Rangers back in 2022 and their former Sporting Director, Ross Wilson, told their website at the time: “We have developed our Academy development programme considerably in recent seasons with a clear focus on individual plans.

“Adam has been making excellent progress against his plan which is naturally pleasing for Gio (van Bronckhorst), and all of our coaching and support staff. I am sure that Adam’s hard work and progress will continue.”

Devine was a regular for Rangers at various different youth ranks as a teenager.

He has been loaned out in the past to Brechin City, Partick Thistle and Motherwell to get some experience under his belt.

The prospect spent time with the latter in the last campaign in the Scottish Premiership and made made 10 appearances in all competitions before heading back to his parent club.

Devine isn’t a regular starter for the Gers under Philippe Clement and a change of scene may do him good.

What now?

Birmingham City have become the latest team to be linked with the player.

They may need to see off competition from West Brom in the Championship if they were to get him.

The Blues won 3-0 away at Wigan Athletic last time out and face Lincoln City in the FA Cup this weekend.
