Birmingham City winger Emil Hansson is due to return to training this week, as detailed in a report by BirminghamLive.
Birmingham City have been without the player over recent weeks after he picked up a knock. BCFC are still hoping that he can return before the end of the season.
Hansson, 26, has sat out of the Blues’ last few League One fixtures. He also missed their Vertu Trophy final against Peterborough United at Wembley earlier this month which was a blow for him.
In this latest update regarding his condition by BirminghamLive, he was expected to link back up with his teammates now. Chris Davies’ side face Stevenage away on Thursday night before they take on Mansfield Town at home on Sunday.
Davies said in early April, as per BirminghamLive: “Frustratingly for Emil and us, he picked up a bit of a knock in training the day before the game, so that’s disappointing. It’s not a season-ender, it will be a few weeks maximum. We’ll have to see how he goes in the next few days.”
Birmingham City won 2-1 away at Burton Albion last time out on Easter Monday. Alfons Sampsted and Jay Stansfield got their goals against the Brewers.
Birmingham City injury latest regarding Emil Hansson
Getting Hansson back for their final few fixtures will be a boost for Birmingham City. BCFC will be keen to give him more minutes.
He has made 24 appearances in all competitions this season and has chipped in with two goals and two assists. The Blues landed him last year to add more competition and depth to their attacking department.
He was their fourth signing last summer after their relegation from the Championship and they gave him a three-year deal running until June 2027. The former Sweden youth international played 78 matches for his previous club Heracles in Holland and found the net on 21 occasions in 78 outings.
Hansson had different spells in Europe before moving to England. He played for Kalmar, Brann, Feyenoord, RKC Waalwijk, Hannover and Fortuna Sittard.
What now for Birmingham City?
Birmingham City have already been promoted and have the title sealed. It is all about ending this term on a high now for BCFC.
The Blues won’t want to put their feet up just yet and will want to give their supporters more things to cheer about before the summer. Davies has done an impressive job since taking over.
He was brought in following their relegation from the second tier and was left to pick up the pieces. Prior to his move, he had spells as the number two with the likes of Celtic, Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur.
Birmingham City have been a forced to be reckoned with since then. They will be eager to keep their momentum going next season.
