Bolton Wanderers are closing in on a deal for Cardiff City striker Kion Etete, a fresh report from Wales Online has revealed.
Bolton Wanderers are embarking on a new chapter. The decision was made to relieve Ian Evatt of his BWFC duties and they now turn over a new leaf.
The season has been a tough one in the North West but there’s still time to turn things around. The Trotters sit 9th in the League One table, only a point away from the play-offs after a surprise win over Huddersfield Town at the weekend.
There’s scope to strengthen further in the transfer market too, and it seems a new face is close to coming in.
Bolton Wanderers are nearing a deal for Cardiff City striker Kion Tete, Wales Online has said. The League One side are at the front of the chase for his services with divisional rivals keen and Etete free to head out.
A loan seems most likely with Callum Robinson and Youssef Salech now ahead of him in the pecking order.
Charlton Athletic are among the other clubs to have been linked with former Tottenham Hotspur youngster Etete this month, but BWFC look to be in a strong position to wrap up a deal.
Best for Etete
23-year-old striker Tete has made only one appearance for Cardiff City this season, that coming in the FA Cup. He’s not played a minute of Championship football with Omer Riza preferring other options.
As such, a loan move will be best for the towering striker. Dropping down a league may well help him get back to his dangerous best too.
It could be that a loan leads to something more long-term too. The Bolton Wanderers target is out of contract at the end of the season, so there is scope for a permanent agreement if a temporary deal is favoured this month.
BWFC striker options
After making the call to cash in on Dion Charles, Bolton Wanderers could do with another striker.
They have versatile players who can fill in up top but the only out-and-out strikers currently on the books are Victor Adeboyejo and Aaron Collins. The latter is arguably better in a role just in behind the striker too.
John McAtee has also spent time as a centre-forward, but signing Etete will give BWFC something different. He’s a hugely physical striker and a towering aerial presence, something that can hopefully aid a push into the top six over the rest of the season.
