Bristol Rovers could turn to Kevin Nolan as they target a new manager, according to a report by Football Insider.
Bristol Rovers are in the hunt for a replacement for Matt Taylor. The Gas decided to cut ties with the former Exeter City and Rotherham United man recently after their poor run of form and they have a big decision to make on who to bring in next.
Nolan, 42, is available following his exit from West Ham at the end of last season. He was part of David Moyes’ coaching team at the London Stadium and has been weighing up his options in the game over the past few months as he looks to get back in.
According to Football Insider, he is in the ‘frame’ for the vacancy at the Memorial Ground. The Pirates are currently sat in 20th place in the League One table and are only two points above the drop zone.
Bristol Rovers eye candidate
Bristol Rovers need to ensure that they get this appointment right as they look to rise up the league.
It has been a tough campaign to date for the Gas and they need to start getting more results.
As a player, Nolan played over 600 games for the likes of Bolton Wanderers and West Ham.
He spent much of his playing days in the Premier League and scored 111 goals along the way before he hung up his boots in 2017.
The Liverpool-born man landed his first managerial role at Leyton Orient and spent three months in charge with the O’s.
He then landed the Notts County job in January 2017 and spent around 18 months with the Magpies, winning 41.7% of matches.
Nolan returned to West Ham in 2020 under Moyes and was on their backroom staff when they won the Europa Conference League.
He has recently been working with the England Under-20’s team along with Paul Nevin.
What now?
Nolan’s links to Bristol Rovers suggest he is keen to become a number one again following his spell at West Ham.
He has experience of being in the dugout in the Football League before from his time at both Leyton Orient and Notts County.
Bristol Rovers need someone who can guide them away from the bottom four.
Whoever they bring in will get the chance to put their own stamp on the squad with some additions in January.
