Sheffield Wednesday narrowly avoided relegation last season. Danny Rohl turned the club’s fortunes around and the German boss has his side looking up ahead of the coming season.

Dawson, 28, played 18 Championship games for the Owls last season. The goalkeeper kept four clean sheets during the mid-part of the campaign before returning to the bench for the run in.

The long-standing Sheffield Wednesday player kept 13 clean sheets in 22 League One games last season and it seems a move to the third tier is on the cards.

His contract is set to expire at the end of this month and Bristol Rovers are likely to snap him up on a free transfer.

Who is this?

The end of an area

Dawson has been at Hillsborough since 2013. He has been a familiar face in the Owls’ dressing room for over ten years and now his time at the club is coming to an end.

The 28-year-old still has plenty of time left in his career though and he is still capable of playing consistently at this level, so Bristol Rovers are getting a good signing here.

He adds experience, but also talent and on a free this really is a good bit of business.

He will reunite with Bristol Rovers boss Matt Taylor who he knows from the season-long loan he had at Exeter City where the pair won promotion in the 2021/22 season.

A new chapter

Sheffield Wednesday are entering a new chapter this summer.

Rohl and his side have all the momentum they need behind them at the moment and their summer business so far has been exciting.

There is still work to do for Sheffield Wednesday, but the early signs are promising and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them climb towards the top half of the second tier this season.

Bristol Rovers will be wanting to do the same thing in League One and Dawson would help them on their way.

Both clubs will want to see improvements this season, but it is the Owls that are the side to watch currently.
