'Can punish them' – Leyton Orient vs Wycombe Wanderers prediction: The72

24/04/2025 03:25
Leyton Orient and Wycombe Wanderers meet in League One on Saturday afternoon in a crucial game in the fight for promotion.
Leyton Orient welcome Wycombe Wanderers to Brisbane Road looking to hold onto their place in the League One play-offs. LOFC sit 6th, level on points with Reading behind them but with a better goal difference.
Given Bolton Wanderers’ goal difference in 7th, it will be one of the O’s or the Royals who land 6th. Stockport County can not be caught in 5th.
Richie Wellens’ side have thoroughly impressed this season and look to have found form again at the perfect time. Orient have won four straight, beating relegation-threatened Cambridge United on Easter Monday.
As for Wycombe Wanderers, they saw their automatic promotion bid take a big hit earlier this week as they were thumped by Charlton Athletic.
The Chairboys were put to the sword by Nathan Jones’ Addicks, losing 4-0 on home turf. It saw them slip to 3rd place behind top-two rivals Wrexham, while Charlton are now only two points back and also in with a shot of automatic promotion.
Led by Mike Dodds, Wycombe had won three in a row without conceding before the sorry performance on Monday.
Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…
James Ray
“I can see this being a very close game on Saturday afternoon. However, if Wycombe Wanderers play like they did against Charlton Athletic, Leyton Orient can punish them.
“Charlie Kelman is in electric form for LOFC while fellow loan man Jamie Donley has been impressive too. They will not pass up opportunities if afforded to them by the Chairboys defence.
“Wycombe have shown they can grind out big results on the road but they’re going to be in for a tough one here. A win is needed, but I can’t help but think they’re left wanting.
“Both sides could do with the triumph, but I’ll go for a 1-1 draw.”
Prediction: Leyton Orient 1-1 Wycombe Wanderers
Harry Mail
“Richie Wellens has done a cracking job at Leyton Orient and will get his players fired up for this one. LOFC need a win to keep their play-off push on track with Reading chasing them down.
“The O’s have been in decent form recently and need to keep it going. They have won their last four games on the spin.
“Wycombe Wanderers need to dust themselves down after their hammering by Charlton Athletic. The Chairboys also need a result here to keep the pressure on Wrexham.
“Mike Dodds’ side are still well in the mix for a top two finish. However, I can see them falling to a loss this weekend.”
Prediction: Leyton Orient 2-1 Wycombe Wanderers
