Birmingham City host Stockport County at St Andrew’s in their upcoming League One clash on Wednesday night.
Birmingham City head into the game on the back of their 2-1 away win against fellow third tier side Blackpool in the second round of the FA Cup last time out. Striker pair Lyndon Dykes and Lukas Jutkiewicz got their goals at Bloomfield Road.
The Blues are eyeing an immediate promotion back to the Championship this season. They were relegated in the last campaign after finishing in the bottom three along with Rotherham United and Huddersfield Town.
Chris Davies joined the Midlands outfit in the summer following coaching spells with the likes of Celtic, Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur. His side have lost twice in the league so far this term.
As for Stockport County, they won the League Two title earlier this year. They were promoted along with Wrexham, Mansfield Town and Crawley Town.
The Hatters have adapted well to life in the division above so far under the guidance of Dave Challinor. The North West club are currently positioned in 4th place in the table.
Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…
Harry Mail
“Birmingham City should have too much quality for Stockport County if they show up and put in their best performance.
“The Blues are yet to lose on their own patch in the league this season and they are proving to be a tough side to play against at St Andrew’s.
“The visitors are no pushovers and are in the play-offs for a reason. In attacker Louie Barry, they have one of the most talented players in the league and he can cause problems to any opponent.
“However, Birmingham City will edge it if they perform to their maximum and they have home advantage in this one.”
Prediction: Birmingham City 2-1 Stockport County
James Ray
“Birmingham City are well-placed in the promotion race but they might not have had the Manchester City-esque dominance many predicted of them. And, with Stockport County in great form, I can see a slip up from the Blues here.
“I don’t think they’ll be beaten, but Challinor’s side will be in a confident mood and they have the star quality to sting the hosts if given the chance.
“At the very least, this should be a close game. The Blues’ home advantage might see them edge it, but I’m going to go for a draw. I’ll say this ends 2-2.”
Prediction: Birmingham City 2-2 Stockport County
