Celtic and Rangers join host of Championship clubs in race for 24-year-old international striker

Celtic and Rangers are the latest teams to be linked with a move for Motherwell striker Theo Bair, as per The Athletic.

Celtic and Rangers are both preparing for another year of competing for Scotland’s top tier title.

Motherwell meanwhile finished 3rd in the relegation half of the division last season and will be playing top flight football again this year.

Bair, 24, featured in 38 league games for Motherwell last season. He scored 15 goals and assisted a further six north of the border.

His performances have led to many clubs in the Football League register interest in him. Charlton Athletic in League One were one of the first and they were soon joined byBlackburn Rovers and Bristol City in the Championship.

Then cameSunderland and Cardiff City as well as FC. St Pauli who have just been promoted to the Bundesliga.

But now Scottish giants Celtic and Rangers have added even more competition to this race as Motherwell face a big battle to keep Bair this summer.

Who is this?

A deserved move

If Bair was to make a switch this summer it would be because of his own top performances.

The 24-year-old has proven himself as a consistent goalscorer and he is probably ready to be tested at a higher level.

He moved to Scotland from the MLS and is yet to have a taste of English football and whilst that is a possibility this summer, the interest from Celtic and Rangers may be too much for the Championship clubs to compete with.

Making the first move

Motherwell have Bair under contract until next summer and that means this summer could be their last chance to get a decent transfer fee for his services.

The 24-year-old is currently on international duty with Canada though and his focus currently will be solely on helping his country in the Copa America.

This saga is one to keep an eye on as the summer goes on and it will be interesting to see if any of the reported interest materialises into a concrete bid and if so, who makes the first move.
