Charlton Athletic and Huddersfield Town are keen on Cardiff City striker Kion Etete, according to Darren Witcoop on X.

The League One pair are both said to be interested in landing the striker with the January transfer window now open for business. Teams have until the end of the month to bring in reinforcements ahead of the second-half of the season.

Etete, 23, hasn’t featured at all yet in this campaign for Cardiff City due to injury issues. He is believed to be working his way back up to full fitness now though but his future is up in the air this winter.

In this latest update regarding his situation, Witcoop has claimed on X that both Charlton Athletic and Huddersfield Town want to lure him down to the third tier before the deadline.

Cardiff City have a big decision to make on what to do with him as they look to avoid relegation from the Championship.

Who is the manager of Blackpool?

Etete rocked up at the Cardiff City Stadium back in 2022 and he has since scored eight goals in 58 games for the Welsh side.

He is out of contract at the end of the campaign and the Bluebirds have a big decision to make on whether to keep hold of him.

After moving to Wales a couple of years ago, he told their website: “It feels good to finally be here. The manager went into a lot of detail about the plan for the season, and how they want me to play. It’s my job to try and fulfil that. When the players know what the gaffer wants from them, it’s easier to put it into motion on the pitch.

“Obviously having gone from League Two to League One, the Championship is the next one. I just can’t wait to get started, get used to the level, and hopefully excel.”

Etete rose up through the ranks at Notts County before Tottenham Hotspur snapped him up in 2019.

He spent three years on the books of the Premier League outfit but never played for their first-team.

Instead, he was loaned out to Northampton Town and Cheltenham Town in the Football League to get some experience under his belt.

What now?

Charlton Athletic and Huddersfield Town could see him as someone to boost their attacking ranks.

The ball is in Cardiff City’s court though and they need to weigh up whether to let him depart.
