Charlton Athletic boss Nathan Jones has said they will be ‘careful’ with Miles Leaburn as he continues his recovery from injury.
Charlton Athletic need to decide when to throw the striker back into the fold. He has been out with a long-term hamstring injury but has returned for the Under-21’s recently.
Leaburn, 20, will be itching to play for the first-team in the near future again. However, the Addicks won’t be taking any risks with him and will only play him when they feel it is the right time.
In this latest update, Jones has said, as per the official club website: “He’s probably days – and that could be double figures in days – more than weeks away from actually playing in a game so that’s a good thing. We’ve got to be careful with him and we’ve got to push him now in training to get him to the levels where we feel we can expose him to a match and then we’ll have no fear in doing that.”
Charlton Athletic injury update
Getting Leaburn back fit will be a big boost for Charlton Athletic. He will give them more competition and depth in attack.
The youngster’s injury was a setback for him but the club have stuck by him.
Leaburn rose up through the academy ranks at Chelsea before switching to The Valley back in 2019.
He was handed his first professional contract in 2022 and made his debut in the same year at the age of 18 in a League One clash away at Accrington Stanley.
The forward hasn’t looked back since and has since made 58 appearances in all competitions, chipping in with 20 goals.
His contract expires in June 2025 so his long-term future is up in the air right now. His main focus has been on getting over his hamstring problem though.
What next for Charlton Athletic?
It remains to be seen when Leaburn will play for Charlton Athletic again but it doesn’t seem to be too far off now.
They are back in action this weekend with a home clash against Rotherham United.
Jones’ side head into the game on the back of their 2-0 away loss at Reading last time out in the league.
They haven’t made a bad start to the new campaign and have nine points on the board from a possible 12 as they aim for promotion to the Championship.
