Charlton Athletic, Lincoln City and Mansfield Town are all eyeing a winter move for Sam Clucas, Football Insider has claimed.

Charlton Athletic, Lincoln City and Mansfield Town will all be looking to enjoy fruitful January transfer windows with the hope of a brighter 2025.

The Addicks and the Imps will be looking to push back towards the League One play-off picture, currently sitting 11th and 12th respectively. The Stags meanwhile are above them, occupying 9th in the table after a fine first year back in the third-tier.

All three clubs will have boxes to tick this month, and it seems they could be set to go to battle for one transfer target.

According to a report from Football Insider, all of Charlton Athletic, Lincoln City and Mansfield Town are keen on bringing midfielder Sam Clucas back to the Football League. The 34-year-old joined Oldham Athletic in October after a spell without a club on a deal until the end of the season, but it is said he could be available for nothing this month due to a contract clause.

Said clause has alerted the Addicks, the Imps and the Stags, though it remains to be seen whether a deal comes to fruition this month.

Serious pedigree

Clucas may be plying his trade in the National League now, but he was a Championship play just last season, so it would not be a surprise if he made an EFL return with one of Charlton Athletic, Lincoln City or Mansfield Town.

The midfielder worked his way through the English ladder and ended up reaching the heights of the Premier League with Hull City, playing 37 times in the top-flight over the course of the 2016/17 campaign. That earned him a move back to the Premier League with Swansea City, though he only stayed there a year.

Clucas was a Championship mainstay in his time with Stoke City and overall, he has played 210 times in the division, chipping in with 25 goals and 25 assists along the way.

A reunion on the cards?

Whether Clucas heads to Charlton Athletic, Lincoln City or Mansfield Town, all moves would mark a reunion of sorts.

The midfielder played under the management of Addicks boss Nathan Jones during his time at Stoke City.

Lincoln-born Clucas was on the books with the Imps for a short spell after time in the Leicester City academy and a stint with local non-league outfit Nettleham, while he spent a year at Mansfield Town from 2013 to 2014, impressing and earning a switch to Chesterfield.
