Charlton Athletic loanee Allan Campbell is set to join Dundee United from Luton Town, according to a report by Football Insider.
Charlton Athletic are poised to see the midfielder’s loan at The Valley cut short. CAFC landed him last summer on a temporary basis.
Campbell, 26, was due to spend the whole season with the League One side. He has made 17 appearances in all competitions this season under the guidance of Nathan Jones, 12 of which have come in the league, and he has chipped in with a single assist.
In this latest update regarding his situation by Football Insider, his time with the Addicks is set to come to an end this winter with a switch to Dundee United on the cards. Jim Goodwin’s men are sat in 3rd place in the Scottish Premiership table behind Celtic and Rangers after an impressive term to date and are on course for European football.
Charlton Athletic loanee Allan Campbell set for exit
Charlton Athletic landed Campbell to boost their options in the middle of the park.
Luton Town gave him the green light to leave to get some more game time.
After joining the Addicks, he told their website: “I’m buzzing. My first impressions have been top. All the staff have been so welcoming. I’ve not met the players yet but I’m looking forward to getting started and helping the club get promoted.
“He (Nathan Jones) played a massive part. He brought me to Luton from Scotland so he knows me well and I know him well from working under him. I know what type of person he is – he’s got a drive to succeed and do well, and I thrive under that environment.”
Campbell rose up the ranks at Motherwell and broke into their first-team as a youngster.
The once-capped Scotland international scored 16 goals in 160 games during his days at Fir Park before moving down the border in 2021 when Luton Town landed him.
He has since played 86 games for the Hatters and has found the net on seven occasions.
The Hatters loaned him to Millwall last term before he linked up with Charlton Athletic.
What now?
Campbell would be an eye-catching addition for Dundee United if they struck an agreement with Luton Town.
As for Charlton Athletic, his exit would free up a space in their squad.
The Addicks are back in action this weekend against Blackpool away.
