Charlton Athletic are poised to sign defender Dan Potts on a deal until January, as per South London Press reporter Richard Cawley on X.

Charlton Athletic are set to land the left-back on a free transfer following his exit from Luton Town at the end of last season. They have picked up nine points from a possible 12 from their first four games of the new campaign.

Potts, 30, was on trial with the League One side over pre-season and will now link up with them on a permanent basis until January.

The Addicks’ boss Nathan Jones has said, as per a report by the South London Press: “He has had a wonderful journey and played in the Premier League. He has played in play-off finals, scored penalties in a winning final and has done fantastically well for me.

“He has been around and we’ve had a look at him. There will be a decision on him very soon. Provided they can still contribute then they work as catalysts in the environment. They help others as well. I wouldn’t bring Dan Potts in if he wasn’t a real example in terms of how goes about his work – how he trains, how he does stuff and is a leader in the changing room and so on.”

Charlton Athletic to sign free agent

Potts would give Charlton Athletic more competition and depth if they get a deal over the line.

He would also inject some useful experience into their ranks.

The former England youth international rose up through the academy at West Ham and was a regular for the Premier League side at various different youth levels.

Potts went on to play 13 games for the Hammers’ first-team as a youngster and was loaned out to Colchester United and Portsmouth to get some experience under his belt.

He joined Luton Town in 2015 whilst they were in League Two and helped them rise all the way up to the top flight during his time at Kenilworth Road.

The full-back played 216 matches for the Hatters in all competitions and chipped in with 12 goals from the back.

They then made the tough decision to part ways with him following their relegation in the last campaign and he officially became a free agent in late June.

What now for ex-Luton Town man?

Potts has been weighing up his options over recent times but could now join Charlton Athletic.

He knows their manager Jones well from their time at Luton Town together.

The Addicks are in action this weekend against Rotherham United.
