Peterborough United and Notts County battle it out for a place in the FA Cup third round on Saturday afternoon.

Peterborough United come into their FA Cup clash with League Two side Notts County off the back of their seventh League One defeat of the season.

The Posh were beaten 2-1 by Reading at the weekend, leaving them 13th in the table. They look a far cry from the promotion-chasing side they have been in recent seasons.

Darren Ferguson’s side will be favourites to win here but with 29 goals conceded in the league so far, they’re there to be beaten.

As for Notts County, they’ll be out to get back on track having won one of the last five in the league. They’ve drawn three and lost one in that time.

Stuart Maynard and co still sit in a solid 5th place in the fourth-tier, just a point off the top three. They’re well placed to fight for promotion this time around after falling off over the second half of the 2024/24 campaign.

The Magpies dispatched of Alfreton Town 5-1 to set up this tie at London Road.

Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…

James Ray

Peterborough United could do with a cup run this season. They’re looking off the pace in League One and while they’ve got the attacking talent to cause problems for anyone in the division, they’re really weak at the back.

“Their defensive frailties are sure to give Notts County hope of a surprise. They’ve got some electric attacking players themselves and I can definitely see them causing Posh some problems, with Alassana Jatta one to watch.

“However, I do think the difference in league quality will shine through with Posh squeaking through.

“I’ll go for a 3-2 home win.”

Prediction: Peterborough United 3-2 Notts County

Peterborough United have players who can hurt Notts County like Poku, Randall and Jade-Jones. The visitors will need to keep them quiet if they are to get a win at London Road.

“The Posh lost 2-1 at home to Reading last time out and could do with winning this tie just to get some confidence back.

Notts County haven’t been doing too badly in League Two and are sat in the play-offs.

“They haven’t scored in their last two though and that suggests they are having a bit of trouble in front of goal. I think they may lose here to Ferguson’s side.”
