Wigan Athletic team news

As per a report by Wigan Today, Maleace Asamoah, Jonny Smith, Tyrese Francois and Michael Olakigbe have been out of action due to injuries over recent times.

Following their stalemate at Lincoln City, Maloney told the club website:“The performance in large parts was good – but I’d like it a little bit quicker at times, but we also have to credit the opponent for making it very hard.

“We had to rely on crosses, and we had a big chance with Thelo (Aasgaard), and Dion (Rankine) in the first half. The full-backs and wingers deserve big credit today, and Will Aimson produced a moment which gives us a point.

“We needed more speed and intensity. In the end, we kept trying to win, but we couldn’t manage today.”

Predicted XI

Tickle; Carragher, Kerr, Aimson, Chambers; Smith, Weir; Rankine, Aasgaard, Thomas; Hugill

Sam Tickle will start again for Wigan Athletic between the sticks.

James Carragher has enjoyed a lot of game time at right-back recently with Calvin Ramsay pushing him for that position. The Latics need to pick between those two.

Jason Kerr and Will Aimson have formed a partnership in the heart of defence ahead of Toby Sibbick. Luke Chambers has made the left-back spot his own.

In midfield, Maloney has options but is likely to go with Jensen Weir and Matt Smith, with Baba Adeeko and Scott Smith providing back-up.

Dion Rankine, Thelo Aasgaard and Silko Thomas will look to cause problems for Stevenage. Callum McManaman injects experience into their squad from the bench.

Joe Hugill has made a positive impression up front on loan from Manchester United.
