Charlton Athletic are in League One action this weekend as they look to continue their promotion push against Peterborough United.
Charlton Athletic come into this weekend’s clash with Peterborough United looking to maintain their late push for the top two. CAFC are one of a handful of promotion contenders in action despite international fixtures.
The Addicks have embarked on an impressive surge up the League One table over 2025 and are back in the hunt for automatic promotion. A top six finish is the bare minimum for the South London outfit though.
Unbeaten in six with five wins and one draw, Nathan Jones’ side have bags of momentum heading to London Road and will be backed to claim all three points.
Peterborough United have been in improved form after a tough season though. While down in 18th, they come into the Charlton Athletic game unbeaten in six in League One.
Charlton Athletic team news
Speaking ahead of this weekend’s trip to Peterborough, Jones confirmed that Charlton Athletic academy graduate Daniel Kanu has picked up an ankle injury and will require assessment.
There was better news on the injury front though, especially regarding left-back Josh Edwards. After missing the Wigan Athletic game, there is confidence he can play a part against the Posh.
Gassan Ahadme, Alex Mitchell and Tom McIntyre all came through a run-out with the U21s scot-free earlier this week and should be involved again.
Attacking midfielder Alex Gilbert has mad a positive impact since arriving and after missing the last game through illness, he should be available for CAFC here.
Predicted XI
(4-2-3-1)
Mannion; Ramsay, Jones, Gillesphey, Edwards; Coventry, Docherty; Small, Berry, Campbell; Godden.
Charlton Athletic have been in fine form of late, so it is unlikely that Jones is planning wide changes to his starting XI.
The trusted back five will be restored with Josh Edwards returning to the lineup. That pushes Thierry Small further up again, though Gilbert may well be used out wide given his impressive form since signing on loan.
Tennai Watson drops out of the team as Luke Berry remains the most advanced of the midfield three. Tyreece Campbell keeps his spot on the left with Matt Godden up top.
Gilbert and CAFC academy graduates Miles Leaburn and Karoy Anderson could all have eyes on starting spots too.
