'Getting nervy' – Wrexham vs Bristol Rovers prediction: The72

16/04/2025 03:43
Wrexham take on Bristol Rovers at the Racecourse Ground on Friday in their upcoming League One clash.
Wrexham are eyeing promotion to the Championship along with Birmingham City. They are placed in 2nd position in the table.
Phil Parkinson’s side are one point above Wycombe Wanderers in 3rd place. They have only four fixtures left to play this season.
The Red Dragons drew 0-0 away at Wigan Athletic last time out. They weren’t able to find a winner against the Latics in the end and were forced to settle for a point.
As for Bristol Rovers, they are fighting for their lives near the bottom as they look to avoid relegation to League Two. They have slipped into the bottom four along with Crawley Town, Cambridge United and Shrewsbury Town.
The Gas have seen their form slump over recent times. Burton Albion have taken advantage of that and have now leapfrogged them.
Inigo Calderon’s men were beaten 2-1 at home by Exeter City in their last match. Ruel Sotiriou pulled a goal back against the Grecians but they couldn’t find an equaliser.
Here, a handful of our writers make their predictions for the game…
Harry Mail
“Wrexham’s fate is in their own hands as they look to get over the line. The pressure is on Phil Parkinson’s side to get a win in this one.
“The Red Dragons should be too strong for their opponents if they show up and play to their best. They are unbeaten in their last six outings.
“Bristol Rovers are staring down the barrel of relegation to League Two unless they can change their fortunes. They are winless in their last six games.
“The Gas are in for another tough test here and will be low on confidence. I think the hosts will edge it to boost their promotion push.”
Prediction: Wrexham 2-1 Bristol Rovers
James Ray
“It’s getting nervy for Wrexham as they look to hold onto 2nd. For what it’s worth, they have exceeded my expectations this season despite their well-documented spending and their recent form has been impressive.
“However, we’re at the stage of the campaign where even draws can be costly, with Wycombe Wanderers closing the gap after the Red Dragons drew with Wigan.
“The hosts should expect nothing less than a win here though. Bristol Rovers have been on the losing end of close games in recent weeks and I think their relegation fears deepen with another defeat while Wrexham claim a big result in their top-two tilt.”
Prediction: Wrexham 2-0 Bristol Rovers
