Birmingham City are back in League One action on Tuesday night as they head to the Memorial Stadium to face Bristol Rovers.
Birmingham City continued their march for the League One title with a win over Shrewsbury Town on Saturday. BCFC won 4-1, avenging the shock loss to Salop last year.
The Blues’ goals were scored by Chris Davies, Ethan Laird and Alfie May (2) as they picked up another valuable three points in their bid for an immediate Championship return. They remain top of the table, nine points clear with two games in hand.
Chris Davies’ side will be looking to take another stride towards sealing promotion against Bristol Rovers on Tuesday. A win would make it four in the last five for City.
Bristol Rovers meanwhile welcome Birmingham City off the back of three straight losses. They’re six points above the drop in 20th.
Birmingham City team news
Speaking in the wake of the Shrewsbury Town win, Davies revealed they are managing a slight issue with Krystian Bielik. The Polish ace missed the weekend’s triumph and it remains to be seen if he can return here.
He joined Paik Seung-ho, Scott Wright, Lyndon Dykes and Lee Buchanan on the Birmingham City sidelines.
Of those players, Paik is the only one who should be back this season. BCFC are being careful with the Korean star as they manage his fitness leading up to the EFL Trophy final on April 13th.
It remains to be seen when Taylor Gardner-Hickman is fit to return having missed the last three League One games.
Predicted XI
(4-2-3-1)
Allsop; Laird, Klarer, Davies, Cochrane; Iwata, Leonard; Anderson, May, Hansson; Stansfield
There is some room for rotation in the Birmingham City ranks, but only really in attack.
The BCFC back four of Laird, Christoph Klarer, Davies and Alex Cochrane is the strongest of what is available while Marc Leonard can continue his run in the starting XI alongside Tomoki Iwata in Paik’s absence.
In attack though, Emil Hansson could be recalled on the wing after Kieran Dowell played all 90 minutes against Shrewsbury. The quick turnaround may see two-goal star May rewarded with a start too, replacing Willum Thor Willumsson.
Keshi Anderson shifts over to the right while talisman Jay Stansfield remains up top.
